    UHS grads draw strength from each other as they look to the future

     

    To be part of Utica High School means being part of something special. 

    “We will always have Utica in our blood, and the family we created here will stay with us for years to come,” senior speaker Angelina Williams said.

    And the UHS family will continue to lift up their classmates well into the future, said valedictory speaker Camryn Konczalski.  

    “The students in this graduating class have always uplifted one another, treating each other as friends rather than classmates,” Konczalski said. “The collective desire that this class shares to surpass our goals and to inspire others is what makes Utica high school truly special.”

    Valedictory Speaker Allison Tuttle further said the relationships and UHS background will be a source of strength of the future. 

    “Wherever you are headed, whenever you meet a challenge, even if the struggle is long, even if its tiring, even if it feels impossible; stop, take a breath, look back at all you have done, and remember that it is all just part of your journey and that you can achieve anything,” she said. 

    Superintendent Robert Monroe noted that the Class of 2025 was the first to have a mandated kindergarten – a change that led to the district creating a nationally recognized kindergarten that used technology to personalize their learning.

    “From the very beginning, you were recognized as leaders who accepted whatever challenge was put in front of you,” he said. “It means you can go into your future knowing you have the talent, tenacity, and grit and to take on anything.”

    Vice President Denyeal Nesovski challenged graduates who are considering “what’s next” to remain committed to their education.

    “The diploma you receive today is not the finish line, but a torch, a flame for curiosity lit at UCS that will continue to burn brightly throughout your lives,” she said. “Whether your next chapter leads to a classroom, a job site, a lab, or somewhere completely unexpected, know that learning has only just begun.”

    Principal Tim Youngblood reviewed the accomplishments of the UHS graduates:

    • The highest SAT gain of all Division 1 schools in the county and the 2nd highest overall score in all of Macomb County. Winner of MAC championships, including a number of state qualifiers and places in athletics.
    • State and nationally recognized competitors in MIPA and HOSA, and we have Utica High Schools 1st ever National Champions in DECA.
    • The district’s first ever Esports team which has won 4 state titles already.
    • Division 1 rated musicians, scholastic artists and talented actors.
    • More than 170 UCS Academic Scholars, 91 AP Scholars, four National Merit Commended Scholars, six Macomb All Academic Scholars, 71 valedictorians and five salutatorians.

    “This group constantly displays Humility, Bravery, Honesty, Wisdom, Truth, Respect and finally Love,” Youngblood said. “You have shown these qualities on a daily basis in our school and within our community. That shows the depth of your character as a class and as individual students.”
