  • 8th Grade Celebration ๐Ÿฅณ

We are excited to host the 8th grade celebration on Wednesday, May 22th from 3:00 - 4:30 pm at Bemis Junior High School.

To make this event a memorable one, we kindly request your support in the form of food donations or volunteering to serve food and refreshments during the event.
If you are donating food, we would like to emphasize that due to the increasing number of allergies among our students, we are striving to create a safe environment for everyone. Therefore, we kindly ask that all food donations be nut-free. This will ensure that all students can enjoy the celebration without any concerns about potential allergies. Food donations can be dropped off in the main office throughout the week.

We are also seeking up to ten parent volunteers to assist with the event. In order to volunteer we must have a completed and approved volunteer form on file. This form needs to be completed by Monday, May 20, and turned into the main office. If volunteering, parents must sign in the main office upon arrival.

Thank you for your support this school year.

*Eighth grade students who are on the No-Go list for attendance and class citizenship are not permitted to attend this event.

  • VACATION NOTICE

According to the Student Handbook, vacation or travel during school days is discouraged. Families should seek permission from a building administrator for an excused vacation absence prior to making any travel arrangements. The request should be made in writing at least one week prior to the vacation. Vacation absences of more than 10 days in a semester will not be approved. Vacation absences that would cause a student to be placed on the No-Go list will not be approved for excusal. Vacations taken without approval will be marked as unexcused absences.

Students approved for excusal should pick-up a “Pre-arranged Absent Form” from the Counseling office.  Homework may be requested and requires 24 hours to process. However, most teachers post their assignments on Schoology.  Work at the secondary level may be due upon return from vacation or travel.

Please be advised: UCS does not support international travel of our laptop devices.

Teams links AND Class Link will not work outside of the US; therefore, students cannot access and complete class work while traveling.

At Bemis Junior High School we are taking positive steps to help your child by offering one hour after school student tutoring sessions three days per week in our Media Center. This program will be facilitated by Bemis Junior High School teachers, along with tutoring by current Henry Ford II High School National Honor Society members. Beginning next Monday, October 23, 2023, two Bemis Junior High School teachers will supervise and support students on Mondays and Tuesdays. Each Wednesday, we will have a teacher supervisor and current Henry Ford II High School National Honor Society members. This is an optional drop-in program, students do not have to attend each session, they do not have to attend every week.

If your child attends any or all tutoring sessions, they will be expected to bring all necessary materials and books to the Media Center by 3:05 p.m. and remain until 4:05 p.m. Parents need to arrange to pick up their child by 4:10 p.m. If you would like your child to participate in this program, please complete the attached form and return it to the counseling office prior to your child’s first date of attendance.

If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Mrs. Dolland-Head at: diana.dolland-head@uticak12.org.

    Sincerely,

  • No unescorted Students at Junior High School After School Activities

I am contacting you today to inform you of one of our district practices regarding evening programs at UCS Junior High Schools.  Normally, students should not attend after-school activities, such as concerts, plays or athletic events, unless they are accompanied by an adult or are participating in the program or event.  Students on the No-Go List will NOT be admitted, even with a parent.

As a reminder: participation in extracurricular activities, including those above, requires a student to be in attendance at school for one-half of the school day on the day of the event.

The above verbiage can be found in the section titled Evening Programs at the Junior High Schools on the eleventh page titled “Our K-12 Approach” of the 2023-2024 Utica Community Schools Parent and Student Handbook.

Students have been informed via school announcements and an email message.
