GLK-UAIS grads sow the seeds to the future
For the Class of 2025, the Gene L. Klida Utica Academy for International Studies planted seeds of belief, of passion and purpose that will shape the gardens of our futures.
“Here, we learned how to plant the seeds of self-belief,” said speaker Klaudia Brakoniecki. “We learned to value the work we do, not just for recognition, but for the meaning and growth it brings. We learned that loving who we are—and nurturing what we contribute to the world—is the foundation for all future success.”
Speaker Blake Deason equated graduates to the lives of superheroes – ordinary individuals, given a unique opportunity who grow stronger by what they learned.
“The biggest step in a hero's journey is the first step they take on their own. We are about to take our first step on our own and it may seem scary, but I know we can handle it. We have learned so much from all of our teachers and friends and we will always be there for each other to lend a helping hand. And that is why I know we are prepared for whatever may come next.
Superintendent Robert Monroe noted that the Class of 2025 was the first to have a mandated kindergarten – a change that led to the district creating a nationally recognized kindergarten that used technology to personalize their learning.
“From the very beginning, you were recognized as leaders who accepted whatever challenge was put in front of you,” he said. “It means you can go into your future knowing you have the talent, tenacity, and grit and to take on anything.”
Vice President Denyeal Nesovski challenged graduates who are considering “what’s next” to remain committed to their education.
“The diploma you receive today is not the finish line, but a torch, a flame for curiosity lit at UCS that will continue to burn brightly throughout your lives,” she said. “Whether your next chapter leads to a classroom, a job site, a lab, or somewhere completely unexpected, know that learning has only just begun.”
Principal Shaun Greene-Beebe noted the class is graduating with a 4.109 gpa.
“Your IB education has provided you with a powerful toolkit: the ability to inquire, to think, to communicate, to be principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective,” she said. “These are not just words on a page; they are the foundations upon which you will build your futures.”
Congratulations to the GLK-UAIS Class of 2025.
