    What are threat assessment protocols?

All UCS principals have been trained in threat assessment protocols, which are modeled after best practices developed by the Secret Service. This thorough process helps identify and assess whether a threat is transient (often defined as “non-credible”) or substantive. The assessment is carried out by a team of trained professionals, which includes an administrator, school mental health professional, school security specialist and local law enforcement.

While the details of these protocols are not publicly available to maintain their integrity and effectiveness, they require us to seek information to determine if an individual can act on threats and involves families in the investigation. The process also evaluates and provides resources for mental health needs.
